We've discovered new voice over lines for the Jailer Zovaal on the Patch 9.2 PTR. Amidst heavy reverb, the banished one mocks listeners over the plans set in motion and pawns maneuvered to realize his grand ambitions of breaking the machine of death.

While perhaps not immediately clear to players already immersed in previous lore, the narrative of Shadowlands revolves around the revelation that the Jailer has been manipulating events for quite some time, unbeknownst to everyone involved. Now taking credit for a number of events, from creating Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination in order to empower the Lich King to be his herald, to using the Dreadlords to manipulate Sargeras and the Burning Legion, the Jailer has been placed behind the scenes of several of the most important story arcs throughout WoW's history. Unfortunately, it was so well hidden that players didn't know it either, so instead of being an eye opening moment, the grand revelation seemingly came without rhyme or reason. The combination of years between events, along with whatever hints there may have been being subtle to the point of unnoticed resulted in little emotional investment in the newest big bad evil guy — to the point where he even lacks name recognition. That hasn't stopped the Jailer from sticking to his story of cunning and guile however, and whether he truly is the ultimate mastermind of every move in the Warcraft universe or if something even more sinister lurks in the shadows, we can only hope that the Jailer's story ends with greater emotional impact than it was introduced.
