GAME looks like it will be getting a restock of PS5 very soon, but you can also now register to buy one direct from Sony.
If you missed out on getting a PlayStation 5 at Christmas there haven’t yet been many opportunities to buy one this year, with most retailers not expected to get more stock in until later in the month.
GAME may end up being one of the first, with PS5 Stock UK predicting that the retailer will put them up for sale either today or tomorrow at between 9am and 11.30am.
As usual, the stock will probably run out after 30 minutes, but there is now another option: try and buy a console direct from Sony.
The PlayStation Direct service has been around for a few months for US customers but now it’s available in the UK and certain other European countries, allowing you to register with Sony for the chance to buy a console from them.
There’s no indication of exactly how many consoles they have to sell, just a ‘limited amount’, but if you sign in at the PlayStation website and ‘register to buy’ you’ll be put into a lottery and if you’re lucky Sony will email you with the option to buy a console.
Sony is emphasising that signing up does not guarantee you the chance to get a console and that when you register you may simply find that the current stock is all sold out.
Clearly, it’s not going to hurt to try though, and you’d at least assume that Sony gets first dibs once new stock does come in.
As has been made very clear by now, the stock problems with the PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X, are not expected to go away until at least 2023, since the underlying problem is the global shortage of semiconductor parts.
