The Xbox Series X and Series S were the top-selling consoles in the UK last month.
According to GfK and GSD data (as reported by GamesIndustry.biz), Xbox Series X/S sales in the country were up 61% compared to February, partly due to new Xbox Series X stock.
The Switch was in second place – and is still the best-selling system so far in the UK this year – while the PS5 remained in third place for the second month, thanks to continued stock shortages.
As ever, it’s important to reiterate that even though both the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 have been out for nearly 18 months old at this stage, both continue to suffer from stock issues as a result of a global chip shortage.
As has been the case since both current-gen systems launched in November 2020, stock has practically been selling as fast as it has been arriving.
As such, nearly a year and a half after launch it’s still difficult to tell which console is actually the most popular – rather, these results likely indicate which system had more stock available for sale in the UK in March.
The news will nevertheless make for happy reading for Microsoft, especially given that Xbox Series X|S outsold PlayStation 5 in Europe for the first time in February.
In terms of software sold in the UK last month, GamesIndustry.biz reports that Elden Ring was “comfortably” number one for the second month running, with Gran Turismo 7 taking second place.
WWE 2K22, which critics hailed as a huge improvement over WWE 2K20, was number 5 in the charts with sales up 164% compared to its predecessor’s first four weeks.
Digital game sales were up 9.6% compared to March 2021, while physical game sales were down 15.5%.
