Although only amounting to a bevy of rumors at this point, many seem sold on the idea that a remake of The Last of Us is in active development at Naughty Dog. Rumblings of the project have been swirling around for quite some time, leading many to believe that there has to be some kind of truth to it. Naughty Dog has been hard at work on its The Last of Us multiplayer project, but considering the popularity of the IP, it seems likely that the studio has more plans in store for the franchise.
In the past few days, more rumors regarding The Last of Us remake have popped up, claiming that the game will be launching sometime later this year. Although it has yet to be acknowledged or properly revealed by either Sony or Naughty Dog, a safe bet can be made that there is some truth to this rumor. Based on information readily available about the project as well as some other relating factors, there is a possibility that this long-rumored remake could see the light of day before the end of the year.
The Last of Us Remake Release Date Could Be Sooner Than Expected
First and foremost, any console needs big games to help support it. The PS5 has had a solid release lineup so far but outside of Horizon: Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 earlier this year, things have been silent regarding what's up next on the schedule. God of War: Ragnarok seems to still be on track for release this year, but players may be expecting at least one other major title as an alternative choice when it comes time to purchase new games.
