The "Closing the Vault" quest in Assassin's Creed Valhalla sets players on a detective mission to discover who the Vault is. This mysterious criminal figure is believed to be a council member of Jorvik who plans to use the Yuletide Festival to poison the town's nobles with tainted wine. Though there are only four council members to choose from, the investigation into which of them is responsible is more tricky than it first appears.
Jorvik has become crime ridden due to a group called the Red Hand and their resentment toward the town's Christian inhabitants. The group is led by a few figureheads such as the Firebrand and the Needle, but both of these characters are ultimately supported by a criminal mastermind known as the Vault. Assassin's Creed Valhalla protagonist Eivor finds that the Vault must be a council member because the Needle used the council's stamp to trick people in Jorvik into believing he had more authority than he actually did. This means that either Faravid, Ricsige, Audun, or even Hjorr (one of Eivor's friends) could be the Vault.

Even though AC Valhalla gives players the opportunity to choose who they think the Vault is, the criminal mastermind eventually reveals himself. By kicking off the Yuletide Feast with a toast that criticizes the people of Jorvik for their sins, Audun reveals himself to the person pulling the strings of the Red Hand. Though this reveal can come across as a surprise, hints throughout the Jorvik questline make it clear that seemingly kind Audun always had ill intentions.
