Apple was reportedly the largest smartphone vendor in Q4, 2021 in terms of global smartphone shipments, largely on the back of a stellar performance by the iPhone 13-series. Apple released the iPhone 13 late last year as an upgrade over the iPhone 12 lineup from 2020. The new series is comprised of the iPhone 13 mini, the iPhone 13, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
The acute chip shortage has been a massive problem over the past year, with most consumer tech companies, automakers, and electronics firms being hit hard by the problem. The shortage has hurt the PC and gaming industries the hardest, with graphics cards continuing to remain in short supply from both AMD and NVIDIA. Apple and Samsung have also been affected by the problem, although they have managed to remain at the top of the heap, much ahead of their competitors.

According to a new Canalys report, Apple finally reclaimed the top spot in the global smartphone market in Q4, 2021 after spending the previous three quarters at the number 2 spot. The company's stellar performance was reportedly on account of the huge popularity of the iPhone 13 series, especially in mainland China, where the lineup reportedly saw «unprecedented» sales.
While Apple clocked a 22-percent market share during the quarter, Samsung came in at number two with a 20-percent share of the market. Xiaomi was in third place with 12-percent, while Oppo and Vivo took the fourth and fifth places with 9-percent and 8-percent respectively.
