The OnePlus 10 Pro is exclusive to China at the moment, and it might not arrive in other markets like the US and Europe until March at the earliest. Following a cannonade of leaks, the phone finally went official earlier this month, but only for the brand’s home market. It was quite a surprise move, as OnePlus has traditionally introduced its phones at glitzy global launch events in the past few years. One might blame the pandemic as one of the reasons, but that shouldn’t have stopped the company from at least releasing the phone in other markets.
One of the key reasons might be the race among fellow brands. With the OnePlus 10 Pro, the company likely wanted to be one of the first brands to sell a phone powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. Given the current status of the semiconductor industry and pandemic-fueled disruptions, sourcing a sufficient stock to feed its entire global marketplace in one go must not have been feasible. However, launching it in China at least ensures that OnePlus had an edge in its fiercely competitive home market. Plus, a delayed international launch also gives the company ample time to iron out any chinks in the armor and optimize the software to deliver the best experience in overseas markets where the software is brimming with Google services.
