GameCentral readers name their least favourite video game characters, from Kratos to Sonic the Hedgehog’s friends.
The subject for this week’s Hot Topic was suggested by reader Firetrain and covers everyone from the protagonist to the villain and more minor characters. What is it that annoys you about them and is it because of their attitude, their actions, their voice-acting, or something else?
In the end everyone from iconic heroes to relatively obscure side characters were named and shamed, with so many different names almost no-one was mentioned twice.
And his iconic cap For some reason currently still unknown to me, I’ve been playing Watch Dogs again this week and it’s amazing what a missed opportunity that first game was – painfully average, seemingly designed by three separate committees, and with nothing really to say about any of the issues it raises.
But the absolute worst thing about Watch Dogs is its protagonist, Aiden Pearce, who is hands down the worst video game player character I have ever come across. He’s the sort of character that some executive thinks would be cool to an 18-year-old, but his entire personality seems to be… what? Trenchcoat?
His hacking activities are the explicit cause of the death of his niece, then when his sister begs him to stop, whether that be to atone or to keep her remaining family safe, he instead doubles down into the criminal underworld, resulting in the kidnapping of his sister. This kidnapping becomes his motivation through the second half of the game, even though the first thing we see him do in game is take his own hostage, a family man that he and his partner spend the rest of the game torturing.
