Katherine McNamara joins the cast of The CW’s pilot Walker: Independence. Previously, McNamara has portrayed Mia “Blackstar” Smoak on The CW series Arrow, reprising her role multiple times throughout the Arrowverse as Felicity’s (Emily Bett Rickards) and Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) daughter. Initially, McNamara was set to star in the Arrow spinoff Green Arrow & The Canaries, but the television network ultimately decided not to move forward with its plans to continue the Arrow legacy.
Now, according to Deadline, McNamara is set to join the upcoming spinoff pilot Walker: Independence as the main female lead. McNamara has been cast for the role of Abby Walker, a tough-minded, wealthy Bostonian. During her itinerary to move across the country with her husband, her husband is murdered by a horse thief. As she embarks on her quest to attain retribution for the death of her husband, she encounters Hoyt Rawlins (Matt Bar), a charming outlaw, who joins her crusade to Independence, Texas. As they both arrive in the town, they are met by a broad range of diverse residents, who all have their own troubled stories and aspirations in life.

Since the upcoming prequel is set in the late 1800s, this means that the events in the series will take place over 100 years before the 1990s western crime-drama Walker. This will result in many questions on how the spinoff will connect to Abby and Hoyt, to the present day’s Abeline Walker (Molly Hagan) and her sons, along with Hoyt’s close childhood friend, Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki). As the series is currently still in development in the early stages, it remains unknown when Walker: Independence will arrive.
