Valve finished testing the redesigned Steam mobile app and everyone can now download it.
Back in August when it asked for beta testers, Valve said "2015 called and wanted their app back" when explaining why the Steam app desperately needed updating. Now we're getting to see what the new design looks like, and it's pretty impressive(Opens in a new window).
First and foremost, security has been enhanced. Two-factor authentication is now used, as is the ability to use a QR code to sign in rather than entering a password. There's also a sign in confirmation process, allowing you to confirm your regular Steam sign ins using "approve" or "deny" responses in the app. You can also manage which devices are authorized to access your Steam account.
Valve made it easy to access your Steam library from within the app, alongside access to the store (with a new mobile-optimized browsing experience), community, and news sections. If a game goes on sale or gets released while you're away from your PC or Steam Deck, it's possible to use the app to purchase the game and remote download it to your PC. The same is possible for game updates.
Other features include customizable Steam notifications (wishlist, sales, comments, trades, discussions, friend requests), customizable tabs, Trade and Market confirmations, and the ability to manage multiple Steam accounts.
Valve made the new app available through the Google Play Store(Opens in a new window), Apple App Store(Opens in a new window), and as a standalone APK(Opens in a new window). And don't forget there's actually three Steam apps. The new mobile app is called Steam Mobile, but then there's Steam Link for streaming games to a PC, and Steam Chat acting as a lightweight chat app.
