Valve’s Switch-like Steam Deck has just started making its way to the lucky few that were able to get the first wave of systems. But some in said first wave are reportedly getting an even more special delivery as Valve’s co-founder and president Gabe Newell is said to be delivering some of these systems himself.
As stated by PC Gamer, some users on Reddit have been posting about their unexpected packages. User SeattleRainPidgeons posted a picture of their signed console, stating that their roommate saw a camera crew next door and realized that Newell was one of the masked people with the crew. He allegedly even gave each of the user’s roommates a Steam Deck, too. If their username is anything to go by, it is likely that the user is near the company’s Bellevue headquarters. They also said they all had to sign releases, so it’s possible the footage will show up online at some point.

User bitfiddler0 also posted something similar, complete with a signed Deck. They said they had received a “spammy” email saying that the Deck would be delivered early and asked if anyone would be home to sign for it. Their wife answered the door to a camera crew and a bearded, masked man that she did not recognize. The user even provided a dated photo from their doorbell camera, which presumably shows Newell wearing a shirt and hat with the Steam Deck logo on it. They also said this was near Bellevue, which would also somewhat corroborate SeattleRainPidgeons’s report if they are indeed near or in the Seattle area. Both Reddit accounts have been around for years, too, meaning they probably weren’t created for the sake of some PR stunt.
There haven’t been other noticeable reports of Newell delivering these Decks.
