Developer Iron Gate Studio recently unleashed a new update for Valheim, which debuts additional features like the frost caves and Steam Deck optimization. A little over a year ago, Valheim launched on Steam to meteoric success, managing to cross five million units sold within a month of release. By the end of August, the Viking-themed survival title had nearly topped a sales milestone of eight million.
Iron Gate Studio continues to support the Early Access project with regular updates both big and small. In fact, the development team teased two major updates on Valheim's one-year anniversary. One such hint revolved around the Mountain update, which is supposedly nearing completion. A blog post celebrating the Valheim anniversary also noted the studio has ramped up its efforts on Mistlands, another content expansion whose specifics presently remain under the radar. Of course, these bigger changes to Valheim haven't distracted from the interstitial patches that go live every so often.

As reported by PC Gamer, Iron Gate just deployed an all-new Valheim update that unlocks the frost caves, dungeons filled with previously unseen enemy types — bats, cultists, and Ulvs. The best way to access the content at present is by right-clicking Valheim in the Steam library, hitting the Properties and Betas functions, then entering the "yesimadebackups" code. PC Gamer notes this overly long process opts players into the "public test branch;" hopefully, frost caves will join the base experience sometime soon.
