During Twitch's TwitchCon San Diego, the Lenova Face-Off challenge's foam pit has proven dangerous, leaving one popular streamer with a broken back. TwitchCon is an annual event for the live-streaming service Twitch.
The TwitchCon convention focuses on the culture and lifestyle that surrounds video game streaming, and serves as a physical platform for Twitch streamers to connect, improve their content quality, and grow their streaming brand. Twitch is famous for pairing with developers to offer in-game exclusives for players that watch various streams. Recently, Overwatch 2 players had the oppurtunity to grab a Kiriko skin by watching the game on Twitch.

During TwitchCon Lenovo Legion hosted a Face Off event, where streamers competed to knock each other off raised foam pedestals and into a foam pit. The challenge was based around the popular 1990s TV show Gladiators. While the pit was supposed to be deep, it was more of a thin layer of foam cubes scattered over something like an inflatable pool. Adriana Chechik, a popular streamer with 802,000 followers, took part in the challenge. Upon hitting the ground, Chechik broke her back in 2 places, an injury that required surgery and the insertion of metal support rods to correct.
Chechik wasn't the only streamer injured. LochVVaness both dislocated her knee, and sprained an ankle while stepping off the podium following a Face-Off victory. She later complained of back pain and had difficulty walking. Throughout the event, contestants were warned against diving into the pit, with a Lenovo commentator stating that every effort had been taken to ensure the pit was safe.
