Samsung has just announced its new series of microSD cards that are designed to outrun your smartphone! No kidding, these Samsung Pro Endurance microSD cards can run non-stop for 16 years and can even survive the harsh conditions. If you are wondering why would someone buy such a microSD card, especially in an era when phones themselves are losing the microSD card slot? Well, these SD cards are meant for IoT devices that require a good quality storage to store data.
Hence, these Samsung SD cards are meant for devices such as surveillance cameras, dashboard cameras, doorbell cameras, body cameras, and more. After all, you don’t keep swapping your doorbell camera frequently and you need something reliable to store valuable footage. And, it is not that the long endurance focus makes these cards unsuitable for high-speed data transfers.
Samsung says that the SD cards are built with in-house NAND flash memory and can last as long as 33 typical speed-focused cards from its Evo Plus series. The cards can reach upto 100 Mbps read speeds and up to 40Mbps write speeds. However, this is dependent on the storage capacity. Note that the SD cards can be had in 32GB and 64GB microSDHC, as well as 128GB and 256GB microSDXC variants. All models also have different endurance ratings. These cards are also rated for resistance against water, magnets and X-ray protection.
So far, Samsung has revealed the prices for the US market only. The 32GB variant costs $10,99 whereas the highest end 256GB variant costs $54.99.
On the other hand, Samsung also made announcements regarding the next generation of mobile storage solution. It introduced UFS 4.0 storage which uses Samsung’s Gen 7 V-NAND memory and proprietary controller. It will offer sequential
