This is part of a larger collection of integrated features that Apple calls Continuity. A feature like this is one of the many reasons why using an iPhone often leads a person to buy an iPad, a Mac, AirPods, or an Apple Watch. These products are designed to work together seamlessly and little touches like this add up to make life easier.
Continuity also allows using an iPad as a second wireless screen for a Mac or MacBook, a feature called SideCar. Apple allows automatic switching of AirPods from an iPhone to a Mac or an iPad simply by switching one device off and the other on. This is similar to the background operations that allow the impressive ability to copy on one device and paste on another.

A viral TikTok and Twitter video from Michael Tobin showed something that, at first, looks like a magic trick.
