The Quarry developer Supermassive
Nordisk Games has fully acquired The Quarry and The Dark Pictures Anthology developer Supermassive Games for an undisclosed fee.
The Danish investment firm, which is owned by entertainment company Nordisk Film, previously purchased a 30.7 percent stake in the UK studio in March 2021.
Through its latest deal Nordisk has acquired 100 percent ownership in Supermassive, making the Guildford-based developer the third wholly-owned studio in its portfolio.
Supermassive was founded in 2008 by Pete Samuels and Joe Samuels and currently employs more than 300 developers.
Nordisk wants the studio to continue working on narrative-driven titles with high-end production values and "cinematic excellence."
"In the year we’ve worked alongside Pete and Joe and the whole Supermassive team, it’s been clear to us the amount of talent, as well as how much potential there is to further develop the kinds of story and narrative-driven games they excel at,” said Mikkel Weider, CEO of Nordisk Games.
"In acquiring 100 percent of the studio we’ll be able to increase our support to the team, and most importantly, continue the great working relationship we have with them."
Supermassive CEO Pete Samuels believes the partnership will provide the studio with security as it seeks to realize its vision for the future.
"Having had such a positive experience over the past year it wasn’t a difficult decision when Nordisk Games wanted to explore increasing their investment," added Samuels.
