The EV joins the segment of electric SUVs that include the Tesla Model X and Volkswagen ID.4. The Subaru also competes with the Leaf, an EV developed by fellow Japanese automaker, Nissan. Being the first electric Subaru, it's no surprise that the 2023 Solterra's design is based on the all-new e-Subaru design platform. A joint venture between Subaru and Toyota, this may be the most technologically advanced Subaru yet.
Before the arrival of Subaru’s electric design platform, the Subaru Global Platform was the go-to choice for the Japanese automaker. With the platform, Subaru witnessed improvements in the design of its models, particularly in areas like strength and rigidity. The automaker was also able to attain a lower center of gravity for its vehicles. Interestingly, building most of the Subaru models with a universal platform increased flexibility and efficiency in production.
