The future of games graphics just got a whole lot more exciting today as Epic Games has finally launched Unreal Engine 5 alongside a playable shooter. Crystal Dynamics also announced that the next Tomb Raider game will be developed on Unreal Engine 5 and the next batch of games for Xbox Game Pass subscribers has been revealed, the crown jewel being Life is Strange: True Colors. We got a little taste of just what Unreal Engine 5 could do back when PlayStation announced The Matrix Awakens last year, but the engine has been in early access ever since. That came to an end today, as Epic Games launched Unreal Engine 5 alongside a playable shooter called Lyra. The shooter is pretty much intended to be a set of tools for budding game developers to use to create their own projects. You can actually play the game if you really want to though, you just need to sign in on the Epic website.

We've had plenty of announcements and rumors of developers working on new projects with Unreal Engine 5, but one of the most high-profile and concrete is probably Crystal Dynamics' recent announcement that it will be developing the next Tomb Raider on the engine.
