Fans of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso may be feeling like they fell out of the lucky tree and hit every branch on the way down, as EA Sports has confirmed that both the titular coach and his fictional AFC Richmond squad will join the list of playable teams in FIFA 23.
AFC Richmond will be available to FIFA 23 players as a member of the «Rest of The World» section of team selection. Richmond will be playable in standard matches, online friendlies, and online seasons.
The team will also be included in FUT through manager items for both Ted Lasso and Coach Beard, AFC Richmond uniforms, and more. The roster will include notable characters such as Roy Kent, Sam Obisanya, Dani Rojas, and Jamie Tartt. The team's home stadium, Nelson Road, will also be available.
«It is so f***ing cool to be in FIFA,» Emmy-award winning actor Brett Goldstein--who portrays player-turned-coach Roy Kent on the show--said in the official release. «I’m not sure this is going to help dispel the CGI rumours but f*** it, totally worth it.»
Ted Lasso tells the story of a college football coach who is suddenly named the head of a fictional English Premier League soccer team. It stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, Hannah Waddingham as the team's owner Rebecca Welton, the aforementioned Goldstein, and more.
FIFA 23 is the latest installment of EA Sports's annual soccer franchise, and will notably be the last to hold the FIFA name as the series transitions to «EA Sports FC» starting next year. The game launches September 30 on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Google Stadia.
