Luxury Swiss watchmaker Tag Heuer has teamed up with Nintendo for another collaboration, this time to make a pair of Mario Kart watches.
The watch line, named TAG Heuer Formula 1 x Mario Kart Limited Edition, comes in two designs – a Chronograph and a Tourbillon Chronograph.
The Tourbillon Chronograph is the more premium product of the two, costing $25,600 / £21,250 and limited to 250 in total.
Meanwhile, the Chronograph will cost $4,300 / £3,550 and is limited to 3000.
The $25,600 Tourbillon Chronograph has a 45mm case made of grade 5 titanium, has a “distinctive black polished ceramic bezel” and features a “skeletonised tri-compax dial showcasing moving Mario Kart elements”, according to Tag Heuer.
The back of the case is also made of custom sapphire glass, letting the wearer see the “ultra-precise COSC-certififed Heuer 02T movement” inside the watch.
The $4,300 Chronograph, on the other hand, has a 44mm case made of polished steel, a “black ceramic tachymeter bezel” showing the Mario Kart logo and a “permanent seconds indicator [which] shows Mario on custom asphalt textured sub-counters”.
This is the second time Tag Heuer has collaborated with Nintendo. Last year the two paired up to release a Super Mario watch limited to 2000.
Rather than the sort of mechanical timepiece the Swiss company is noted for, however, the Tag Heuer Connected x Super Mario watch was a special edition of the Tag Heuer Connected, a digital watch that uses Wear OS (the watch version of Android).
Despite this, it still had an asking price of $2,150, and still promptly sold out.
