When Kate returns to Silberspiegel Refuge at the climax of Syberia: The World Before, a blizzard impedes her progress mere feet from her goal. She needs to get a generator running in order to see whose bodies were uncovered in Devil's Pass. Like every contraption in the game, turning on the generator is much more complicated than simply hitting a switch.

While the generator is one of the simpler machines in the game, the location of its components isn't quite as intuitive as with the previous puzzles. If something isn't quite clicking, this guide will get the lights back on.
Before proceeding to Devil’s Pass, stop by the common room of the refuge. On your way up to the porch, notice the gasoline can near the stairs - you’ll need it later. Look at the objects on the table, as well as Leni’s wheelchair, to complete a secondary objective, then pick up the key on top of the bar. With that done, go back outside to find the Belgian guest at the far side of the porch. He explains that the bodies from Devil’s Pass have been brought to the refuge.
After sending the guest inside, inspect the nearby generator. Rotate the camera so that you’re looking at the far side of the machine and interact with the tank. The generator is out of gas, so go back and get the fuel by the stairs. Return to the generator and rotate the cap on the tank to open it.
Once the generator is fueled, it needs to be cranked, but the handle is missing (of course). Flip the switch on the opposite side of the generator from the socket, then use the key from the bar to open the box above (it’s covered in snow and near the top of the screen, so it’s easy to miss).
