Sports Story, the sequel to 2017’s Switch exclusive Golf Story, has been released.
Nintendo announced the release on Friday and promptly dropped the title onto its Nintendo eShop store for $14.99 / £12.80. Previously, the game was confirmed for a December window.
The long-awaited sports RPG was first announced during Nintendo’s December 2019 Indie World Showcase and was initially planned for release in mid-2020, but it was delayed due to developer Sidebar Games’ “ambitious” plans.
The game expands on the golf-focused original with tennis, fishing, dungeons, mini-games and more.
Golf Story received favourable reviews upon its release in September 2017 and went on to be nominated for Best Debut and Best Debut Indie Game at the GDC Awards and The Game Awards.
“In this all-out sporting RPG, you’ll rise through the ranks of the sports world and prove your prowess on the golf course, tennis court and football pitch,” reads an official product description.
“By raising your sporting rank you’ll unlock even more disciplines, including BMX, volleyball, cricket and more. But the game isn’t just about sports – hop on a train or helicopter to explore dungeons, abandoned ruins and the mysterious Wildlands, or kick back at the mall with its daily attractions, specialty sports stores and minigames.”
