Following the Superman & Lois season 2 finale confirming it is not set in the main Arrowverse world, the show is facing strong backlash. Since Superman & Lois premiered in 2021, it was presumed that the show was set on Earth-Prime with the rest of the Arrowverse. While Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch started on Supergirl, which was originally set on Earth-38, Crisis on Infinite Earths made the point to merge all the shows onto the same Earth. Throughout Superman & Lois season 1, there were allusions to its place in the Arrowverse, including appearances by Arrow's John Diggle.
As the lack of Arrowverse references or cameos became questioned by viewers, Superman & Lois boss Todd Helbing promised the end of season 2 would answer those questions. Helbing had stated that the end of Superman & Lois season 2 would explain how the show fits into the Arrowverse. However, the final episode of Superman & Lois' sophomore season came with a different conclusion. Despite previous evidence to suggest otherwise, Superman & Lois season 2, episode 15, titled «Waiting for Superman,» confirmed once and for all that it is not, in fact, set on Earth-Prime.

While it will be at least six months before Superman & Lois season 3 premieres, where they may expand upon this reveal, the twist has caused a strong reaction on social media.
