Summer Games Done Quick is back! The video-game speedrunning marathon raising money for charity officially kicks off this week. Raising some cold hard cash for Doctors Without Borders, the event will feature quick runs of an assortment of old and new video games. This year’s schedule includes titles like Elden Ring, Pokemon, and GTA.
Summer Games Done Quick 2022 runs from June 26 to July 2 this year. For those unfamiliar with the event, it features players speedrunning, or completing a playthrough of a game as fast as possible. These playthroughs often utilize glitches within the games, emulation software, and other such assistance in getting through a game as quickly as possible.

As people stream these runs, viewers are encouraged to donate to Doctors Without Borders. The international humanitarian organization offers medical assistance to people all over the world in need. The doctors, nurses, and other frontline workers of the organization are often the first to arrive at the scene of a disaster or conflict. If that isn’t enough reason to donate, you are also entered into the Summer Games Done Quick raffle when you do, offering donators the opportunity to win an array of video game-themed prizes.
Speaking of video games, this year’s marathon will feature both classic and more recent titles. Of course, 2022's biggest game, Elden Ring, will be featured during the event, which should come as no surprise considering how it has helped spark a huge wave of popularity in speedrunning over the past year. Other recent titles to make an appearance include Control, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, and Metroid Dread.
