The movie, which is set to be penned by writer Derek Kolstad, will be produced by Kolstad alongside Sega’s Toru Nakahara, dj2 Entertainment’s Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson, Dan Jevons, and Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, and Tony Shaw.
“When Dmitri first mentioned the idea of cracking a movie, I was so immediately freaking in. And to play with Sega? The ten-year-old me is still grinning,” said Kolstad in a statement.
Currently, not much is known about the upcoming film adaptation, but if its screenwriter’s history is anything to go by, the film will likely be a huge action spectacle on par with the games it’s based on.
The series started in 1991 and became a well-known 2D beat ’em up series. The most recent entry, 2020’s , was received incredibly well and shows that the franchise has life even over three decades later.
