Technically, there is more than enough blatant jankiness across all possible elements of the player experience to harm review scores and general appraisals for most people. There are also multiple instances of poor dialogue, cringeworthy writing, baffling character decisions, and even a couple of flat-out grammatical errors. However, by the halfway point none of these issues really mattered.
The game engaged me 100% by presenting believable, competent, professional characters who by the later stages I found myself genuinely caring about. I can honestly say that this is the first Star Trek product I've experienced in fifteen years that actually felt like true Star Trek (with Picard season 3 coming very close across some of its running time).
