Spelunky 2 is hard. That’s why we’ve got a bunch of guides to help you find the best routes and how to beat its various challenges. But what if you wanted it to be even harder but simultaneously play some calming music while you attempted to climb over and over again?
Then you should try Getting Over It with XanaGear, a new mod that makes Spelunky 2 way harder than it needs to be. The mod adds "A True Challenge" which is parenthetically described as "Impossible" to the start of a new run, and judging by the trailer, it sure does look difficult.

XanaGear says in the mod description that they were inspired by the game Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, a 2017 indie title that describes itself as a game designed to hurt "a certain kind of person." The game is fairly simple: you play as a man trapped inside a cauldron who is trying to climb a mountain by swinging a hammer. It sounds stupid, and it is, but it's also ludicrously punishing in that you'll often fall all the way down the mountain and be forced to start over.
XanaGear's mod has a similar design in that the levels are all constructed such that falling will result in losing all progress. And the main character, Airyn, is also stuck in a cauldron for some reason.
"I made this over the last few weeks while working on my larger mod, it started out as a bit of a joke level that was way too hard but I have now turned it into something I quite enjoy playing,” wrote XanaGear, “and I hope you do too!"
XanaGear mentions an exceptionally hard level is in the mod and is offering a $50 bounty for the first person to beat it. If it’s anything like the trailer, it’ll be very, very hard. Good luck.
