Sony is finally taking pity on those who purchased a DualSense controller to play PC games.
Though the PlayStation 5 was released in November 2020, it's still in short supply. In theory, that's not a problem for PC gamers who buy a DualSense controller—except Sony wouldn't let them update the gamepad's firmware without a PS5. Until now.
The imaginatively titled "Firmware updater for DualSense wireless controller" app is now available for Windows 11 and 64-bit versions of Windows 10. (People using the 32-bit version appear to be out of luck.) The app can be downloaded from the PlayStation website.
Sony notes that PC gamers won't be notified of new firmware updates automatically; they have to launch the app to see if a new version is available. The company also says that only a single DualSense controller can be updated at a time using the Windows application.
Will this comfort people who've been looking to buy a PS5 for almost a year and a half? Probably not. But at least now DualSense owners who don't have the next-gen console on hand won't be stuck using out-of-date firmware simply because they're using the controller with a PC.
