During EVO 2022, SNK made a surprise announcement and confirmed that a new Fatal Fury fighting game was in development. Little information about the new Fatal Fury project was shared other than a teaser image hinting at three of the game's main characters. While no official SNK announcements have been made since, Fatal Fury chief producer Yasuyuki Oda attended Gamescom 2022 and let slip some exciting new details.
One of the biggest surprises of Fatal Fury's initial announcement was the lack of staple franchise characters being announced. Instead, the three characters teased in Fatal Fury's reveal were best known from Garou: Mark of the Wolves, including Rock Howard and two figures believed to be Kain R. Heinlein and Billy Kane. Now one major Fatal Fury character can be added to the known roster. Oda confirmed to Twinfinite that Terry Bogard is «definitely» in the new game.

The scope of the game was also mentioned by Oda. Oda says that the new Fatal Fury game will focus on online play and vs. fighting. That may not be a surprise, considering what modern fighting games focus on, but for a franchise being resurrected after more than two decades, it's important to set expectations early. Fans of Fatal Fury's single-player stories can rest easy, too, as Oda says there will be a bigger focus on story in Fatal Fury compared to other modern SNK games.
Focuses on online multiplayer, competitive fighting, and single-player may sound like SNK is just saying it will focus on everything.
