Skyrim Anniversary Edition Players Report Framerate And Crashing Problems On Switch
Nintendo Switch players got a surprise when The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Anniversary Edition suddenly launched on the system on Thursday this week. The game sells as a stand-alone bundle or as an upgrade from the base game. However, Switch players are reporting issues with the Anniversary Edition.
Over on the Nintendo Switch subreddit, many players have been reporting issues, with the main problem being pretty awful framerate drops and frequent crashes (via Nintendo Life). "The worst thing is, if you just re-install the Vanilla game without the Anniversary Edition content it's back to being silky smooth as it was before the update," reads the top rated comment, in the thread. "Something must've gone really wrong with the add-ons."

The Anniversary Edition of Skyrim first released last year on November 11, and was intended to mark the tenth anniversary of the perennially popular RPG, and included next-gen upgrades for PS5 and Xbox series consoles. While Switch owners may not get the same graphical and performance improvements, they can expect the additional game modes, like Survival Mode, new quests, enemies, weapons, and mini-games such as fishing in the Anniversary Edition. They should expect them too considering the stand-alone bundle costs full price.
This makes the performance issues that players are experiencing disappointing to say the least. "Crashes are really bad too," commented another, in the subreddit thread. "I just started a new game because my 200 hour save can't leave Winterhold without the game crashing."
