The Pam & Tommy star is perplexed by Hollywood's overall obsession to have people care about the awards show, indicating that the feelings it once created aren't fully there anymore.
Rogen's comments come days after the Academy Awards nominations were revealed, with Netflix's The Power of the Dog leading the way with 12 total nominations, including Best Picture. For years the Oscars ceremony has tried to add and eliminate elements from its programming to reignite excitement in a dissipating viewership, such as cutbacks to the original song performances to scale down the ceremony's duration. In addition, there was a brief discussion around the inclusion of a Most Popular Film category, but the idea never came to fruition. The avalanche plaguing the awards show numbers have been an issue for a while, and the changes don't appear to be attracting new eyes.

Rogen expressed his feelings during a sit-down with Insider while promoting his new Super Bowl commercial with Paul Rudd. «I don't get why movie people care so much if other people care what awards we give ourselves,» disclosed Rogen. «To me, maybe people just don't care. I don't care who wins the automobile awards. No other industry expects everyone to care about what awards they shower upon themselves. Maybe people just don't care. Maybe they did for a while and they stopped caring. And why should they?» Rogen has never been nominated for an Academy Award throughout his diverse career, but he has attended the ceremony in the past.
