Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore repeats the cardinal sin of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2's ending. The third prequel movie to the Harry Potter franchise concludes in a surprisingly final way, with the blood pact between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald breaking, and the reconciliation of Newt Scamander and Tina Goldstein. However, JK Rowling and director David Yates clearly did not learn from their work on the final Harry Potter movie, as Secrets of Dumbledore concludes in a way that is just as boring.
The thirdFantastic Beasts movie is surprisingly light on magical battles. Halfway through the movie, Jude Law's Dumbledore engages in a battle with Ezra Miller's Credence Barebone/Aurelius Dumbledore, in a fight that features some interesting aesthetics, and sees Dumbledore skillfully use magic to teleport around the room. It also features a phoenix, symbolizing Aurelius' impending death. The finale of the movie then sees Newt Scamander return with the magical Qilin to reveal that Grindelwald has rigged the election to become the Supreme Mugwump. After torturing muggle Jacob Kowalski with the cruciatus curse, Grindelwald tries to kill Aurelius, though Dumbledore casts a spell at the exact same moment, breaking the blood pact between him and Grindelwald.
