Sean Astin Gives Lord of the Rings TV Show His Blessing
The Lord of the Rings' Samwise Gamgee actor Sean Astin has seen the trailer for Amazon's new series The Rings of Power and loved it. Over the years since author J.R.R. Tolkien first released his The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings novels, there have been numerous adaptations of the beloved stories. Of course, today, Peter Jackson's massively successful The Lord of the Rings trilogy is the best-known adaptation. TheLord of the Rings films had a major impact on the fantasy genre, and won a total of 17 Academy Awards across the franchise's three installments. For many, Jackson's films are considered the definitive interpretation of Tolkien's work.
The author's iconic saga is set to see another installment very soon, with Amazon's prequel seriesThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power releasing in September.The series takes place thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings, and will follow both new and old characters as they fight to defeat a new rising evil in Middle Earth. While many are excited to see an adaptation of Tolkien's writings about the history of Middle Earth, some have voiced concerns based on the previous The Rings of Power trailers. Amazon seems to have taken some liberties with the rules and history of Tolkien's world, and there has also been criticism that the series seems to be leaning on action and violence to drive the story more than his original works do.
