In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Magmar is one of the many Pokémon that players will need to evolve in order to 100% complete their Pokédex. Magmar is part of the original 151 Pokémon that started the series with Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, and it was originally one of the only Pokémon that didn't have an evolution. In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Magmortar was introduced as Magmar's evolution, but it could only be obtained by trading Magmar with the held item called the Magmarizer.
Unfortunately, Pokémon can't use held items in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, so Magmar's method of evolution has changed. What remains the same, however, are the stat changes that Magmortar sees when it evolves from Magmar. When Magmar evolves into Magmortar, its HP, Defense, Special Attack, and Special Defense stats all receive a small increase. Additionally, while Magmortar's Attack stat has the same value as Magmar's, Magmortar actually sees a slight drop in its Speed stat.

Though held items can no longer be used to evolve Pokémon, players still need to use a Magmarizer in order to evolve Magmar into Magmortar in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Similar to the evolutionary stones such as the Dawn Stone Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players can evolve Magmar by using the Magmarizer as if it were an evolution stone. Magmarizers are extremely rare to find on their own in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but the good news is that Magmarizers are available from several sources.
