Very few Pokemon games across the franchise have allowed fans to actually play as a Pokemon. Yes, there’s the Mystery Dungeon series and Pokemon Unite, but Game Freak has never let you play as a Charizard in a mainline Pokemon game before. However, one fan has taken it upon themselves to make that a reality and has entirely remade Pokemon Legends: Arceus, but you play as a Pokemon instead.
Before the launch of Pokemon Legends: Arceus, YouTuber Avatar Nick shared their attempt at making the game before Game Freak itself. Avatar Nick actually succeeded in their goal and is now using this template to make a version of Pokemon Legends: Arceus where you actually play as the Pokemon rather than a trainer.

In the video, Avatar Nick goes through some of the trials they faced during the development of the game, including trying to have pretty much every Pokemon in existence available as a playable character and Pokemon clipping throught the floor. Avatar Nick even implemented one of the features that were included in Pokemon Legends: Arceus’ Daybreak update, that being the appearance of alpha swarms.
It’s definitely a neat video and one to certainly check out if you’re into game development.
