PlayStation VR2 will get a new Fantavision game at launch, Sony has revealed.
Fantavision 202X will be released on February 22, 2023, alongside the new virtual reality hardware, and will be an entirely new entry in the series, powered by Unreal Engine.
The original Fantavision was released on the PlayStation 2, arriving just five days after the console launched in Japan in March 2000.
It was then released as a launch title in North America and Europe, where reviews were generally above average.
The original was a reaction-based puzzle game where players triggered fireworks by matching flares of the same colour and detonating them.
As players progress through the game, new types of flares are introduced which open up potential for multi-detonation combos.
The game was mainly praised for its visual presentation, with most reviews complimenting its particle effects and use of colour. Sony will doubtless be hoping the sequel will be similarly heralded as a visual spectacle on PlayStation VR2.
“The PS VR2 headset and PS VR2 Sense controller provides an immersive experience for you to fill the star-studded sky with sparkling fireworks,” the company said on the official PlayStation Blog. “With its simple yet addictive gameplay, it won’t take long for you to master the controls.”
PS VR2 will launch on February 22, 2023. Priced at $549.99 / €599.99 / £529.99, it includes the PS VR2 headset, PS VR2 Sense controllers and stereo headphones.
There is also a $599.99 / €649.99 / £569.99 bundle which includes a PlayStation Store voucher code for launch title Horizon Call of the Mountain.
Capcom has also announced that Resident Evil Village will be a PlayStation VR2 launch title.
