PlayStation is seeking further investments as it continues its push into the mobile and PC space.
Speaking to Reuters, PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst said: “Further investments in areas that will strengthen the expansion on to PC, on to mobile and into live services, that’s definitely a possibility for us.”
The executive didn’t elaborate further on what these further investments could entail.
While PlayStation has had a foot in both the PC and mobile space for some time, neither has been given the focus that the main console business has.
PlayStation’s intentions in the mobile space became somewhat clearer when it appointed former Apple Arcade content boss Nicola Sebastiani to lead the company’s new mobile push last year.
A job advert spotted last April revealed that PlayStation was opening a new business unit to adapt its “most popular franchises” for mobile.
The following month, PlayStation boss Jim Ryan said the platform holder was planning to bring some of its “iconic IP” to mobile during its current business year ending in March 2022.
PlayStation’s push into the PC space has been gradual, but it appears that the console maker intends to increase the pace at which it releases some of its biggest games on the platform.
There is mounting evidence that 2021’s Returnal will be coming to PC soon, making it the shortest release window for an original PS5 title to make the transition to PC.
Earlier this year, VGC was also provided footage appearing to show Returnal running on PC.
The PC port of Returnal was included in the huge ‘leak’ of unannounced games on Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming service.
Last year Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan stated that PlayStation was planning to bring “a whole slate” of games to PC.
