OnePlus just remembered it's not entirely a midrange phone company. The company said it's going to sell the 12GB/256GB model of the OnePlus 10 Pro in the US for $969 starting on June 15.
Until now, the OnePlus 10 Pro has been only available in the US in an 8GB/128GB model via T-Mobile for $900. That's more expensive than the 256GB Galaxy S22 ($849.99) and the same price as a 256GB iPhone 13 ($899).
The amount of built-in storage is important because the OnePlus 10 Pro, like those other phones, no longer supports MicroSD expandable memory. High-quality photos and videos tend to take up a lot of space on a device.
The unlocked OnePlus 10 Pro is designed primarily for T-Mobile's 5G network but also works on Verizon's low and mid-band 5G, including Verizon's C-band. That means it also works on Verizon-based virtual carriers like US Mobile, and with C-band, it should get good performance where that network is deployed. It's a 4G-only phone on AT&T, however.
It's been difficult to get a bead on OnePlus's wavering flagship phone strategy since last year, when the company had a major executive exodus amidst its effective merger with Oppo. Last year's OnePlus 9 Pro came to the US only in its higher-storage model, with no more-affordable option.
The company's focus now seems to be much more on its successful low-cost Nord line in the US, and on phones in non-US markets. The OnePlus 10 Pro came out first in China, and the company just announced a OnePlus 10R, which will not be coming to the US. (For what it's worth, CEO Pete Lau says the company is not backing down from its US focus.)
The spec bump is welcome, but what OnePlus users really want is news about OxygenOS 13. The current OnePlus Android skin, OxygenOS 12, is the Windows
