While other Runewords have been revealed through streamer announcements in the past few days, the staff runeword Obsession waited to make its appearance until the release of the latest 2.4 PTR patch notes. This caster-specific weapon has a high price tag in terms of requiring a Zod rune, but the sheer number of amazing attributes will make casters re-examine their Best in Slot lists.
Unfortunately, the patch notes did not list the minimum level for this, but given that it contains a Zod rune, we can assume that the minimum level of this will be level 69: Obsession Staff 'ZodIstLemLumIoNef' Required Level: 69 (Likely) Indestructible 24% Chance to cast level 10 Weaken when struck +4 To All Skills +65% Faster Cast Rate +60% Faster Hit Recovery Knockback +10 To Vitality +10 To Energy Increase Maximum Life 15-25% (varies) Regenerate Mana 15-30% (varies) All Resistances +60-70 (varies) 75% Extra Gold from Monsters 30% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items Socketed (6) This caster staff has great potential for Sorceresses, as well as some builds of Necromancer and Druid. Without some kind of aura or other emanating ability, it's not ideal as a Mercenary weapon, one of the few new Runewords that doesn't have an obvious Mercenary application.
Some of the traits are not that exciting, but it more than makes up for it in the truly amazing abilities elsewhere:
The 60% Faster Cast Rate is currently the highest FCR to be found on any weapon in game. There are a few items with 50% Faster Cast Rate, all one handed Unique weapons (Wizardstrike, Spectral Shard, and Suicide Branch). The highest FCR on any staff is currently 45% on Ondal's Wisdom. 60% Faster Hit Recovery is also a great defensive ability, and one not found in such a high.
