Amouranth recently started selling her own farts in a jar, and because my job is both very real and very normal, I'm here to write a critical analysis of the lean-in feminism and hustle culture capitalism that swirls around the flatulence of a woman who plays video games on camera. As with anything Amouranth does, she's come under heavy criticism for selling her own bowel gas. However, I'm not sure she's doing anything wrong, and I'm yet to hear any legitimate criticism that doesn't rotate back to being distaste for Amouranth specifically, usually with an undertone of general misogyny.
First, let's see how we got here. Amouranth has been a highly successful streamer for a long time, mostly streaming in IRL or Just Chatting categories rather than video games. Streamers who found success on Twitch away from video games specifically tend to be looked down upon by purists, and with the rise of the hot tub meta (essentially just people sitting in hot tubs, with Amouranth being the most popular), she earned another boost, in popularity, profile, and notoriety. This happened again when the hot tub meta was followed by the fart meta, for which Amouranth and IndieFoxx were temporarily banned from Twitch. Interestingly, given her latest venture, Amouranth's participation in the fart meta did not extend to actually farting, but instead to licking microphones and jumping up and down on her bed while dressed as Gwen Stacy wearing a horse head mask. Yes, really.
