No Time to Die star Ana de Armas explains why she is against a female Bond. De Armas opened eyes and garnered fans when she played CIA agent Paloma in 2021’s Bond entry. Now many fans are calling for the star to return either in her own spinoff or as the new lead of the Bond series.
The idea of super-masculine Bond being gender-swapped to female has of course been brought up many times in the past. Unfortunately, the female Bond notion seems to be a complete non-starter, at least going by comments made by series producer Barbara Broccoli. Back in 2018, Broccoli slammed the door on a female Bond, saying "James Bond can be of any color, but he is male.” She added, “I'm not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”

Broccoli’s remarks about the possibility of a female Bond may have been controversial in the eyes of some. But for her part, Bond series standout de Armas seems to be in lock-step with Broccoli’s thinking on the subject. Speaking to the Sun, the Paloma actor laid out her own thoughts on the matter:
“There’s no need for a female Bond. There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over. This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he’s at.”
“What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way. That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things.”
