A new will soon be appearing in stores after the release date was confirmed during today’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct. The console will be released before the upcoming Mario game and will only be sold separately; there won’t be an official Super Mario Bros. Wonder bundle.
The new Nintendo Switch OLED Model Mario Red Edition will be released worldwide on October 6, 2023. This is two weeks before Super Mario Bros. Wonder is released on October 20.
The new Switch will feature a screen with red backing, red Joycons with black buttons, a black Joycon grip accessory, and a red docking station. The rear side of the docking station will feature a silhouette of Mario in the bottom left corner. Removing the docking station’s rear panel will also reveal some hidden Mario coins inside.
The console’s pricing wasn’t revealed during the Super Mario Bros. Wonder Direct, although it is now available to pre-order from the Nintendo Store for $349.99. Previous rumors at Dealabs magazine suggest the recommended retail price in Europe will be around €349.99. The console is not yet available for pre-order in this region.
As the console only features a general Mario theme, it will not be bundled with the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder game. However, there were plenty of details about the upcoming game revealed during the 15-minute-long presentation. This included a longer look at the variety of four-person multiplayer modes, the many playable characters and their features, some of the game’s unique player abilities, and the unexpected events known as the Wonder Effects. Super Mario Bros. Wonder takes a step back to the 2D side-scrolling format, the first Super Mario Bros. game to do so since New Super Mario Bros. U in 2012.
