The Nintendo eShop has reportedly suspended transactions in Russia due to a problem processing payments in Russian currency. Russia and Belarus' ongoing invasion of Ukraine has led many parts of the gaming industry to pledge support to the Eastern European country. Recently The Pokémon Company lent aid to Ukraine in the form of a two thousand dollar donation, and it seems that Russia has now been blocked from the Nintendo eShop.
Since the start of Russia's invasion on February 24, countries and institutions around the world have come out in support of Ukraine. Many developers and publishers within the gaming industry have lent aid in the form of pulling game sales from Russia and making sizable donations to Ukraine. Battlefield 2042 removed a Russian helicopter that had previously served as an in-game reward, while Ubisoft has offered its Ukrainian employees additional funds to help them relocate. Mykhailo Fedorov, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, recently asked PlayStation and Xbox to block Russian accounts as a way to motivate proactive protest from Russian citizens.

As reported by Nintendo Life, the Russian Nintendo eShop has been placed into maintenance mode due to an issue with a third-party payment service. A support page on the eShop's website, translated from Russian by Nintendo Life, explains that the Nintendo eShop's payment service has temporarily stopped processing rubles. This leaves it unclear whether Nintendo had a hand in suspending the digital storefront in Russia, or if the third-party payment service was solely responsible for the ongoing issue.
