The on-again off-again romance between Nightwing and Batgirl may be in danger following a major faux pas on the part of the first Robin. Dick Grayson is usually known for his empathic nature and being more socially adept than his mentor, Batman. Despite this, Nightwing also has a history of making mistakes in regards to his romantic partners and he recently committed one of the greatest sins one can commit in a modern romance: binging a beloved show without his girlfriend.
While Nightwing has a longer history of being romantically involved with Starfire, he and Barbara Gordon also have a history of flirting with each other dating back to their teenage years as Batgirl and Robin. The two recently became serious, however, adopting a dog together in the Nightwing series and being shown talking as if they were a committed couple in other Batman family books. This trend has continues in Batgirls #8 by Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad and Robbi Rodriguez. The two infiltrate Penguin's nightclub, the Iceberg Lounge, in fancy dress as part of a mission and the talk turns flirtatious as the two change into their costumes.

Nightwing suggests that he and Batgirl spend some time alone instead of following through on the mission and risking an encounter with the recently upgraded Penguin. She is agreeable to his suggestion that they start the night with "eating popcorn, catching up on our show," noting that she hasn't have a chance to start the latest season.
