Apple today introduced a "more powerful, entertaining, and affordable" Apple TV 4K(Opens in a new window) powered by the same A15 Bionic chip found in the iPhone 14.
This next generation of Apple's media-streaming device promises to offer a significant boost in performance, which should result in a snappier user interface and "more fluid gameplay." Those with relatively new 4K TVs will be happy to hear Apple has added support for HDR10+ alongside Dolby Vision. On the audio front, there's support for Dolby Atmos 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, as well as the ability to connect a pair of HomePod mini speakers.
Apple doesn't miss an opportunity to make its products work together, so it's possible to use your iPhone as a remote for the Apple TV 4K, as well as for color calibration. You can connect up to two sets of AirPods for shared listening and voice commands via Siri, watch together from anywhere using FaceTime via SharePlay, and use the media streamer as a smart home hub to work seamlessly with HomeKit-enabled accessories and the new Matter smart home connectivity standard.
Two configurations of the new Apple TV 4K will be offered: Apple TV 4K (Wi-Fi) with 64GB of storage; and Apple TV 4K (Wi-Fi + Ethernet) with 128GB of storage, plus support for Thread, a networking protocol designed for smart home connectivity.
Both can be pre-ordered today(Opens in a new window) and will ship starting Nov. 4. The Wi-Fi model will cost $129.99, while the Wi-Fi + Ethernet model is slightly more at $149.99 (down from $179 on the previous model). Both models include the Siri Remote with USB-C connector and three months of free access to Apple TV+. If you want AppleCare+ protection, that's an extra $29.
