Two rumours about the next Assassin’s Creed have emerged this week but the one about it involving Aztecs seems the less believable one.
Although most games are leaked out before their official announcement there are certain franchises you can guarantee you’ll find out more about before their official reveal than after. One of those is Call Of Duty and another is Assassin’s Creed.
Although for a long while they were coming out every year, it’ll soon be two years since Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and still nothing has been announced beyond the nebulous live service entry Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
Rumours suggest that before that arrives there’ll be another traditional game, repurposed from planned Valhalla DLC and called Rift. That’s been talked about for a while now but there’s been no real agreement on when and where it’s set.
Most recently the suggestion was a direct Valhalla spin-off starring the character Basim Ibn Ishaq, but earlier in the week YouTuber ACG suggested that the next game had an Aztec setting.
Although the idea quickly did the rounds he offered no proof, or any further details, and so Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who reported the initial rumours about Basim, replied on a thread on Reddit stating that he still believed the next game to be Rift.
He added to the rumour by stating that it would be set in Baghdad, so not the Northern European setting of the rest of Valhalla – even though it will presumably still be set in the 9th century.
Schreier went on to say that the next game after Rift would be Infinity, which is believed to have several different settings. He claimed to already know what two of them are, but insisted that neither of them involve the Aztecs.
