The newest advertisement for Pokémon Legends: Arceus features the adorable Pokémon Budew in puppet form sabotaging a dating show. Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the first game in the series in which Pokémon can and do deal damage to the player, potentially causing players to drop their satchel full of items and be teleported back to base camp. This isn’t the only mechanic that Pokémon Legends: Arceus flips on its head in the new action RPG.
The latest series of Pokémon Legends: Arceus advertisements capitalize on this dynamic shift in the series, claiming, “it’s Pokémon, but not as you know it.” In a previous advertisement, the rideable Pokémon Basculegion terrorizes an Antiques Roadshow-style program, demonstrating that Pokémon can indeed be terrifying creatures. Fortunately for many players, Basculegion is primarily a friendly, noble Pokémon that will allow them to travel across the water, rather than attacking them.

This trailer, despite still depicting Pokémon causing danger for the dating show participants in the real world, takes on a somewhat more comedic tone as the characters try to play off their allergic reactions as blushing or crying because of how nice the other looks. In the end, the couple ends up deciding they have a lot in common, including disheveled hair and red faces. The Budew appears very happy to have brought them together.
