2K has detailed the first gameplay improvements coming to NBA 2K23.
Almost every aspect of gameplay has been refreshed, largely in response to fan feedback, according to the publisher.
“We value community feedback when deciding how to bring each version of NBA 2K to life, and this year’s gameplay enhancements reflect many of the changes our community was calling for the most,” said Mike Wang, gameplay director at Visual Concepts.
“From focusing on how players can attack the basket, to more realistic on-ball defense and a new tiered badge system, all the features we’ve brought to life in the game this year will create a more authentic gameplay experience that is enjoyable for everyone.”
Shooting attributes is a new feature which gives each signature jump shot its own unique shooting stats that help determine its effectiveness. At launch, there will be five new shot meters to choose from, and 2K has claimed that 15 more will be unlocked throughout the year.
The Pro Stick has also received an overhaul, with new gesture combos allowing for new avenues of attack for both shooters and passers.
Dunking has been changed too, allowing for more specific animations to be selected by players. In past games, players would often accidentally pull off an acrobatic drunk, which is easier to defend, causing frustration.
And a new adrenaline boost system has been added in order to reduce the amount of “over dribbling”. Now, every time a player uses a burst of energy to get around a defender, they’ll use up one of these adrenaline boosts.
NBA 2K23 will be released on September 9, 2022. Basketball legend Michael Jordan will grace the cover of two NBA 2K23 special editions.
