Naomi Ackie is Whitney Houston in the first look at the musical biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody. A few of Ackie's earlier roles include her television debut as Jen in Doctor Who season 9, episode 10, «Face the Raven,» before starring as Bonnie in the British comedy series The End of the F***ing World. The actress is perhaps best known for her role as Jannah in The Rise of Skywalker. In late 2020, Ackie was cast to play Whitney Houston in an upcoming biopic.
Taking its name from the singer's hit song from 1987, I Wanna Dance With Somebody hails from Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Anthony McCarten, who penned a previous musical biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Harriet director Kasi Lemmons. Ackie leads the cast as the late musical icon alongside Stanley Tucci, Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, Nafessa Williams, and The Wire's Clarke Peters. Ever since Ackie was cast in the lead role, audiences have been eagerly awaiting the first look at the actress in character as the iconic singer.
