Warning! Spoilers ahead for Blue Exorcist chapters 47 and 48!
Probably the most worthless storyline in My Hero Academia is the school festival arc (besides the odd but pivotal Bakugo twist). And although most fans understandably think it was beyond saving or even worth the effort, a similar event in Blue Exorcist reveals just how much opportunity was wasted.
Not even mentioning the massive twist when Renzō Shima ostensibly betrays everyone in Blue Exorcist, the few chapters covering True Cross Academy's festival highlight many of My Hero Academia's numerous flaws. First, Blue Exorcist doesn't waste time by attempting to capture how everyone participated in the school festival. She instead focuses on what matters: The relationship between Rin and Shiemi Moriyama and even Rin's brother Yukio. And why readers care about these three characters, in particular, is the second reason why My Hero Academia's arc fails by epic proportions: the lack of romance.

By the time the school festival rolls around in My Hero Academia, mangaka Kohei Horikoshi had already tapered off the adorable moments between Deku and Ochako Uraraka. Even though that's what readers wanted then (and are still waiting for now), the arc's focus was on class 1-A bending over backwards to win the hearts of their fellow students. Every other class blamed them for U.A. High's increased security and stricter rules, so class 1-A concluded they would form a band and put on the greatest performance ever.
